Es war eine äußerst kappe Entscheidung zwischen Slim Smith aka Dakota Jim und der Fatman Ridim Section. Letzten Endes hat sich der Octofish für Mr. Smith entschieden. Natürlich aus gutem Grund. Als Mitglied der Technique wurde Keith Smith schon zu Ska Zeiten bekannt. 1966 trat er den Uniques bei und etablierte sich als eine der markantesten Stimmen im Rocksteady. Der Rocksteady Flair schwingt auch bei dieser Veröffentlichung mit. Dabei handelt sich um eine Kompilation mit einigen alten Hits. Vermutlich so aus den Jahren 1966-70. Immer im Vordergrund die soulgeladene Stimme von Slim Smith. Unangefochten auf Platz eins “Don’t Tell Your Mama” dicht gefolgt von “Money Love”. Ob diese beiden Stücke damals Hits waren weiß ich nicht.
Slim Smith ist 1972 oder 73 tödlich verunglückt. Einige Quellen sprechen auch von Selbstmord und Depression. Er hat eine Scheibe eingeschlagen. Entweder von seinem oder dem Haus seiner Eltern. Dabei muss er sich schwere Verletzungen zugezogen haben, so dass er noch an Ort und Stelle verblutete. Wie auch diese Compilation wurden sehr viele Sachen erst nach seinem Tod veröffentlicht oder wieder veroffentlicht, teilweise erst in den 80ern und 90ern. Die ganze Kohle landete dann bei den Produzenten und Labels. Dennoch bleibt der posthume Ruhm und die Anerkennung der Reggae/Rocksteady Gemeinde.
